I am building on over nine years of work experience in international settings as an environmental researcher and project manager, communication officer and science journalist.
Currently, I am working as Chief Communication Officer for the European initative Climate-KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community). In addition, I develop science communications of the international SPARC (stratospheric research) programme. Before that, I was the Communication Officer of the international PAGES (Past Global Changes) office. From 2009 to 2010, I held the position of Programme Officer for the UNEP/WMO Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Secretariat. From 2006 to 2009, I served as Science Communications Officer for the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO). From 2008 to 2010, alongside work, I studied Communications Management and Science Journalism at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Economics and the Swiss Media School (MAZ), respectively. Formal trainings in professional layout/graphics design and project management were of additional value to my work with the United Nations. During the past years I have also worked as a freelance science journalist and published regularly in a popular science magazine and newspapers.
I hold a PhD in environmental sciences from the Arctic University Centre on Svalbard, Norway (2002-2005). In addition, I gained professional experience in teaching and lecturing at post-graduate level, and in guiding students through their master projects. As an occasional expedition guide serving on polar ice breakers I also trained in making ad-hoc presentations on Arctic biology and history to lay audiences from around the world.
There are many places I used to call 'home': I lived and worked in the High Arctic in Norway, on remote Tasmania in Australia, in Spain, Germany and Switzerland and hence, speak English, Spanish and German fluently, with a fair knowledge of French and Norwegian. As a member of the Swiss Association of Science Journalists and the international Research and Media Network, I advocate true cross-border communications.
